8000 free tickets will be available to Queenslanders affected by floods when the Dalai Lama of Tibet, one of the world’s most revered spiritual leaders, visits Brisbane later this year.

During his three day visit, from 15 to 17 June, he will engage with South East Queensland audiences in a series of special forums targeted at business leader, teenagers and youth.

The forums form part of a 22-day tour across Australia, including events to be held in Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, and Perth.

The Dalai Lama is considered by many as the ultimate representative of modern-day peace. In 1989 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his non-violent struggle for the liberation of Tibet. He has consistently advocated policies of non-violence, even in the face of extreme aggression. He also became the first Nobel Laureate to be recognised for his concern for global environmental problems.

He has travelled to more than 62 countries spanning 6 continents, and has met with presidents, prime ministers and crowned rulers of major nations. He has held dialogues with the heads of different religions and many well-known scientists.

Since 1959 His Holiness has received over 84 awards, honorary doctorates, and prizes in recognition of his message of peace, non-violence, inter-religious understanding, universal responsibility and compassion. The Dalai Lama has also authored more than 72 books. He describes himself as “a simple Buddhist monk”.
