The Spirit of Christmas fuels gift giveaway

A new Australian business in the Brisbane suburb of Nundah will be spreading Christmas cheer when it opens its doors this morning by filling the store with free gifts for the public.

With no explanation other than “That’s what you do at Christmas, isn’t it?”, everyday Aussie Dennis Stevenson is looking forward to the opening of the store, The Spirit of Christmas, with high hopes.

“My friend and I have collected things for weeks for the shop,” Mr Stevenson said.

“We anticipate there will be enough gifts for everyone on the first day, then we’re relying on people to bring gifts with them when they come.

“Businesses have been wonderful to donate signs, carpet cleaning, insurance, use of the shop and sending this message out,” he said.

Mr Stevenson said everyone was welcome especially people doing it hard or who can’t afford gifts, particularly for kids.

“Not a cent will change hands – the only thing we promote is for all of us to share what we have with others,” Mr Stevenson said.

The shop will be open until 6 p.m everyday up to and including Christmas Eve for everyone donating or needing last minute gifts. Mr Stevenson believes the Brisbane community will keep the spirit ball rolling.

“We have lots of space, so anything new or that looks new can be dropped off while we’re open,” he said

The shop is located at the corner of Aspinall and Station Streets in Nundah, west of Nundah Railway Station.

This is bringing hope to those including ourselves that who will be struggling this Xmas, there should be more and more of this, would love to be part of a world where this is how everyone treats each other…Dennis you are an amazing man.

Great idea, it will help a lot of families out. Christmas time is very stressful even if you do have a job and money. Hopefully the bug will catch on in other Brisbane suburbs so that The whole of Brisbane could benefit from something like this. Heaps and heaps of unwanted gifts exchange at Christmas time. It is a great idea! Good on you Dennis!

I am proud of you Dennis and proud to know you.
This is GREAT work that you are doing.
Have a very very HAPPY CHRISTMAS.
